Trusted Eye Surgery Support in Kentucky
We’ve supported Kentucky families through every stage of cataract care for over 60 years. While we don’t perform the surgery in-house, we serve as your primary care partner before and after surgery, helping you make informed decisions, preparing you for your procedure, and managing your follow-up care. From the first signs of blurry vision to the final post-op visit, we’re here to help you see clearly with comfort and clarity.
What Are Cataracts?
Cataracts occur when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, often due to aging, sun exposure, or other health conditions like diabetes. Over time, that cloudiness can cause:
- Blurry or dim vision
- Trouble seeing at night
- Increased sensitivity to light or glare
- Fading or yellowing of colors
- Frequent prescription changes that don't improve your vision
Cataracts aren’t painful and don’t always require immediate surgery, but they do progress over time. The earlier we monitor them, the better we can help you plan for treatment when it’s needed.
Preparing for Cataract Surgery
Before your cataract procedure, you’ll return to your Eye Care Center Optometrist provider for a full pre-operative evaluation. This includes:
What Happens During Cataract Surgery
While we don't perform the surgery itself, we make sure you feel fully prepared for what to expect on the day of your procedure. Here’s how it works:
- You’ll be awake, but relaxed. Most patients receive mild sedation and topical numbing drops to make the experience more comfortable.
- Your surgeon will make a tiny incision in the eye and use advanced technology to remove the cloudy natural lens.
- A clear artificial lens (called an IOL) is inserted in its place—this is what helps restore your vision.
- No stitches are needed, and you’ll go home the same day with a protective shield over your eye.
What to Expect After Surgery
Following your procedure, you’ll return to our office for post-operative care and ongoing support. Most patients come in for follow-ups at:
- 1 day after surgery
- 1 week after surgery
- 1 month post-op (or as needed)
During these visits, our eye doctors will monitor your healing, check for signs of inflammation or pressure changes, and evaluate your new lens clarity. If any concerns arise, we’ll work with your surgeon to make sure your recovery stays on track.
